Sarova Shaba Lodge Samburu National Reserve Kenya Africa
Sarova Shaba Lodge is a luxury lodge accommodation built near a natural spring which feeds into a multitude of streams and pools throughout the grounds creating an oasis of lush tropical vegetation. Décor is thatched roof, stone and timber, tastefully combining local materials and architectural style. Each room has en-suite facilities, mosquito netting and fans.
The open air restaurant overlooks the pool, river and lodge grounds. Shaba Sarova lodge Hotel is a deluxe Kenya accommodation set in “Born Free” country, where the glories of nature are concentrated in this semi-desert oasis of Shaba National Reserve. Spring water flows throughout to form beautiful water cascades and sparkle into the Uaaso Nyiro River, the habitat for crocodiles. Unique to this area are reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, beisa Oryx and the Somali ostrich. The Shaba Lodge basks in a legacy bequeathed by Joy Adamson of the ‘Born Free’ fame.
She was wife of a prominent conservationist, George Adamson, who was a senior game warden of the area. Joy raised her adopted animals next door to the current Sarova Shaba Lodge’s site. She first came to Kenya in 1910 with her first husband whom she latter divorced. In 1956, George, in his capacity as the game warden was compelled to kill a man-eating lioness, which had three newly born cubs. So orphaned before they could imprint on any animate object, they were taken in by Joy Adamson who became their foster mother. She named them ‘Lustica’, ‘Big One’, and ‘Elsa’.
She later found that she could not handle three fast growing lionesses; therefore she reluctantly sent the cubs to Blydrop, Rotterdam when they were five months old. Located in the semi-desert Shaba Game Reserve in the Central Kenya the Sarova Shaba Lodge offers the guests a chance to see the bounty of unique wildlife made famous by the film “Born Free”. In March 1998, the lodge played host to the cast and crew of the ” Born Free”, true-life story of George and Joy Adamson and starred both Kenya actors and International film stars. The majority of the filming took place in the game reserve but some of the scenes were actually shot in the Shaba Sarova lodge Hotel.
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is the only lodge in the Shaba Game Reserve, set amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in Kenya. Meet the colourful Samburu tribe or see unique game species only found in this area, or visit the crocodile infested Uaso Ny’iro River. Sarova hotel & lodge rings the bell of superior quality in everything, however, Shaba Game Lodge is most certainly not your usual Sarova hotel, the location of the lodge is excellent and you will be amazed as you approach the hotel, it appears out of no where and is a little oasis in the middle of the reserve.

She had turned her back on it. She swayed forward. Her bare arms were lifted. Her hands lightly caught the molding on either side of the door. She was looking intently into the mirror at the other end of the hall. All the lights in the dining- room were lit, and she saw herself rather keenly set aga
