Puerto Vallarta?s Airport is All Good
This is it – sweaty palms, shallow breathing - the one part of your Mexico vacation that you’ve been dreading is upon you. Your plane has landed and now you must navigate the airport. Stressful moments lurk behind every post and pillar in the place: Where do we find our bags? What are these customs guys saying? How are we supposed to get to our House for Rent in Puerto Vallarta? Suddenly, you wish you’d signed up for that conversational Spanish class at the community center.
No, really . . . relax
Before total and unreasoning panic takes over, stop for just a minute, take a deep breath and remember . . . you’re in Puerto Vallarta. It’s all good, even the airport. Puerto Vallarta Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport is a bright, modern facility that offers the same services you will find in any major airport; better still, everything is wrapped in a package of manageable size.
Travelers step off international flights all day long. A number of commercial airlines depart cities in Canada and the US, and one charter airline flies to Puerto Vallarta from Gatwick in the UK. Let’s see – resort destination, tourists – it stands to reason that the folks who work at the airport are professionals, and they’re accustomed to helping visitors start their holiday on a positive note. So relax, follow the directional arrows, and get out into the sunshine as quickly as possible.
A hive of activity
You’ll be happy to learn that the Puerto Vallarta International Airport has everything you need to get your vacation off to the best possible start.
A number of restaurants cater to passengers who didn’t purchase the in-flight meal. You can get a quick snack or a full meal. There are a couple of names you’ll recognize from home, but honestly, why would you buy a hamburger in Puerto Vallarta when there is so much local flavor to enjoy? Of course, there are shops, and they are the perfect place to pick up duty-free stuff and last-minute gifts on your way out of town. Bathrooms are scattered throughout the airport, including just opposite the gates. It was a long flight, and you might as well get comfortable before you head to the customs counters. The airport has both an ATM and a bank, so you don’t need to change money before you leave home. You may be able to avoid exchange fees at the ATM; on the other hand, you may have to pay a fee for using the machine. You make the call. Taxis are available at the airport; to avoid the fees the government places on airport driving, you can drag your bags out to the highway and catch a cab to your House for Rent in Puerto Vallarta.
