Get Rid Of Fleas Naturally ? Your Pet Will Thank You

Nobody likes fleas least of all your dog or cat. They multiply way faster than rabbits and can infest a house in a short period of time. On top of that they can cause tapeworm and transmit other pet diseases and are just generally a real pest. Fortunately there are steps you can take to prevent your pet from being infested and also methods to get rid of them if your dog or cat does become infested.

Fleas are most active in the summer and fall because they like a moist warm environment. You can slow them down a bit outside by keeping your grass and shrubs trimmed back. The flea larva cannot survive direct sunlight and the less opportunity that they have to hide the better chance of stopping their reproduction cycle.

If your pet has brought them into the house the best way to get rid of them is careful vacuuming. Buy a flea collar and cut it up into little pieces. Add a couple of pieces to your vacuum bag before you begin and then make sure to toss the bag once you have finished. In serious cases you may want to give your rugs more attention by sprinkling borax over all your rugs and then using a garden rake to work it into the fabric. That’s all there is to it really. You let it set for awhile and then do a through vacuuming.

If Fido has fleas you have a couple of options. First, regardless what you use, make sure you’re outdoors when you de-flea the dog. These tricks and products don’t kill the fleas they just remove them from your pet so you want them jumping off into the great outdoors and not onto your rug.

You can try combing the fleas out using a fine tooth flea comb. If you have a large dog this is going to take some time and your pet’s cooperation. As an alternative you can whip up a natural flea powder. Visit your local health food store and get some eucalyptus, rosemary, fennel and yellow dock. Use equal parts of each ingredient and mix well in a bowl. Find an old spice jar that has the sprinkle top on it and pour the mixture in it. This becomes your home grown flea powder dispenser. Sprinkle the mix on your pet and either use a comb or your hands and work the powder down to the skin. No chemicals and no fleas.

Make sure your pet’s bedding is flea free as well. Wash it frequently in hot soapy water to insure any larva that may have been deposited is destroyed.

Okay you’ve washed the dog’s bed, now you need to wash the dog. For some animals this is great fun. For others, not so much but it has to be done. Rather than use chemicals, try just soaking your pet in warm soapy water and let it stay on for ten or fifteen minutes before you rinse. Fleas can’t survive the soap.

And that should do it. You can be flea free without exposing you or your pets to harsh chemicals.
