Guide to Self Catering Accommodation in Suffolk

Self catering is the best way to enjoy all home facilities and have your own front door as well - the option if you wish to live freely in a home-from-home style in Suffolk. Also, of course, it is great value too so you can spend the money you’ve saved in the fantastic Suffolk Restaurants, or on enjoying more of Suffolk’s Attractions!

From cottages along pretty country lanes to modern apartments close to the beach - choosing self-catering accommodation in Suffolk is a vote for comfortable freedom. Here is an overview of just some of the wonderful options available to you in Suffolk.

Cottages make for a perfect self catering holiday, offering a cosy and homely environment whilst providing all of the facilities needed to ensure you have a comfortable stay. Cottages are often found in idylic, secluded and beautifully scenic spots, and there are plenty available in Suffolk.

Suffolk Holiday Cottages have a huge selection of options available, whether you are looking for contemporary chic or classic comfort. Similarly, Best of Suffolk in Aldeburgh offers a wonderful range of accommodation in stylish holiday cottages along the Suffolk Coast and throughout the countryside.

In Woodbridge you will discover Thatched Farm which provides self catering in two lovely cottages in the grounds of the farm. The cottages were once farm buildings that have been renovated to offer peaceful holiday accommodation in an ideal location to explore Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. There is ample parking, a laundry room on site and free wireless internet access.

In Orford you will find not one but two lovely cottages available for hire - Burnt Cottage and Quay View. Burnt Cottage is a comfortable, pretty and clean period cottage in a very quiet traffic-free lane, and Quay View is an annexe of Quay House, with stunning views over the Estuary and the Quay. Both of these charming cottages come fully equipped with all expected bathroom/kicthen/bedroom/lounge facilities and have off-street parking. Quay View welcomes two well-behaved dogs.

For a unique experience, stay at Bay Tree Cottage. This thatched cottage is a Grade II listed building dating from the 17th century, in the well known village of Redgrave. The cottage is situated in a quiet lane with very little traffic, overlooking fields to the front and rear and offering beautiful walks on the doorstep. The large garden at the rear is totally private and also houses a small, separate studio room.

Caravan Parks and Campsites also make for an enjoyable, family-friendly self catering holiday in the wonderful Suffolk countryside. There are a huge selection to choose from in Suffolk, all offering facilities such as parking, shower block, on-site shop, beautiful surroundings and easy access to town centres and local attractions. Caravanning and camping also make for very cost effective holidays.

It is also possible to find self catering accommodation in Suffolk that is the height of luxury. For example, 1st Place Newmarket Apartments provide the ultimate in comfort alongside the all-important little extras such as Egyptian cotton bedding, towels, toiletries, lounge with TV, free Wi-Fi, and a selection of DVDs, and kicthen.

Milton Villa in Aldeburgh is a comfortable, self contained Family House. There are two generous bedrooms in the main house, with recently refurbished bathroom and bath. There is also a bright and spacious annexe in the garden with adult-sized bunk beds. The Villa has a well equipped kitchen and laundry room, plus there is a sitting room with a wood burner.

Finally, for the finest possible self catering accommodation, stay at Dower House, located with its own garden on the 1,800 acres of grounds at The Ickworth Hotel, Bury St Edmunds in Bury St Edmunds. There are 11 individually designed suites in total. Whether you’re a couple, family or a group of friends, the suites make an ideal base for family breaks in Suffolk.

Another important reason for choosing self-catering accommodation in Suffolk is that one of the hot secrets of the county is that it is overflowing with excellent food-shopping. You can buy vegetables straight from the farm and plunge deep into the cheeses, cured meats, and local produce of gourmet delis. You can skip cooking altogether and just enjoy the fare of farmers’ markets, and raid the counters of the many shops selling Suffolk’s wonderful delis.

If you do decide to cook, your self-catering kitchen cupboards will have all the basic tools and pans you need. On top of the agreed hire price, you may be charged for electricity and gas, so do discuss all charges beforehand with the owners of the self-catering homes, and find out if there is anything you might need to bring along to create your own home-from-home - or indeed, your own style of Suffolk-inspired cuisine.
